What is a Peugeot EC Certificate of Conformity (COC)?

The Peugeot EC Certificate of Conformity is the official document confirming that a vehicle has European type approval. Issued by the manufacturer, it certifies that your Peugeot complies with the applicable EU safety and environmental standards. When an imported Peugeot is registered for the first time, the registration authority uses the manufacturer's data shown on the certificate, including the type-approval number, emissions figures and vehicle category.

Ordering a Peugeot COC certificate enables registration authorities and vehicle inspection organisations to transfer the technical data accurately. The document includes the emissions figures used to calculate vehicle tax, together with the approved wheel and tyre combinations for models such as the Peugeot 208, 3008 and 508.

What technical information does a Peugeot COC certificate contain?

Whether you own a Peugeot 206, 207, 2008, 308 SW, 5008, the electric e-208, or a commercial vehicle such as the Partner, Expert or Boxer, the Certificate of Conformity provides technical details that may be missing or incomplete in the vehicle registration document:

  • Identification: Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), brand, exact type designation, variant, version, and the important EC type approval number.
  • Engine specifications: Engine capacity, maximum net power, fuel type (petrol, diesel, electric, or hybrid), and the specific engine code.
  • Dimensions and weights: Vehicle length, width, and height, as well as kerb weight, maximum permissible mass, and towing capacity (braked/unbraked).
  • Emissions & taxation: Specific CO₂ values (combined) according to WLTP (or NEDC for older vehicles) and the exact emissions standard (e.g. Euro 6d), which directly determines your vehicle tax.
  • Tyres: All manufacturer-approved tyre sizes and wheel specifications (essential to confirm factory-approved tyre sizes and wheel dimensions).
  • Additional data: Official colour code, number of seats, stationary and drive-by noise levels in dB(A), and maximum speed.

Where Can You Find the VIN on Your Peugeot?

The 17-digit VIN is essential to request your Peugeot COC document. You can find it here:

  • In the vehicle registration certificate: In field "E" of your vehicle registration document.
  • On the windscreen: Usually visible from outside, at the lower left side.
  • In the door entry area: On a sticker or plate on the B-pillar (driver or passenger side).
  • In the engine bay: Engraved on the bodywork or on the manufacturer’s plate.

Important note: Enter the VIN without spaces when placing your order. Pay special attention not to confuse the letter "O" with the number "0" to ensure smooth and delay-free processing.

Frequently asked questions about Peugeot COC certificates

Peugeot is now part of Stellantis and was formerly part of PSA. Who issues the COC certificate?

The document is still issued by the vehicle manufacturer, Automobiles Peugeot. Stellantis is the group to which Peugeot belongs, alongside Citroen, DS and Opel; certificate requests for these brands are now handled through a shared group portal. This does not change the issuer or the way you order from us: we request the certificate from the manufacturer, and your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) determines the brand, type and variant shown on the COC.

Can I obtain a COC certificate for an older Peugeot such as a 206 or 307?

Usually, yes. The key factor is not the model but the date of first registration. EU type approval has applied to new vehicle types since 1996 and to all newly registered passenger cars since 1998, so a Peugeot 206 or 307 will almost always have one and a replacement Peugeot COC certificate can normally be requested. For a Peugeot 205 or an early 106, availability depends on the year of registration. Vehicles registered before 1998 may have national approval only, in which case an individual vehicle approval may be required instead of a COC. Older models from the 1990s may also take longer for the manufacturer to process.

My motorhome is built on a Peugeot Boxer. Do I need a Peugeot COC certificate?

For motorhome registration, the certificate issued by the converter or bodybuilder is normally the relevant document. Each manufacturer certifies its own stage: Peugeot certifies the incomplete base vehicle, while the converter certifies the completed vehicle. You generally need the Peugeot COC when registering a chassis or panel van such as a Partner, Expert or Boxer, or when the registration authority asks for evidence of the base vehicle's technical data.

Can I request a Peugeot Certificate of Conformity directly from the manufacturer?

Yes. Only the manufacturer can issue the certificate. However, requesting Peugeot COC papers directly from the manufacturer's service may involve postal applications, follow-up questions and delivery, which can result in a wait of up to 30 days. We submit the same request to the manufacturer, check your VIN in advance and send the original certificate by UPS. You can first use our free VIN check to confirm whether the document is available for your vehicle.
